Fears Of Money (675 hits)

Do you find yourself afraid to start things because of financial reasons. Situations like this are bad, but money and currency have become a measurement for status and the way that lives are lived.

Families are taken apart, friendships are ended, people jeopardize their lives. Is a piece of status or something that could be gone tomorrow, worth fear and sorrow?

Money is a tool to make life easier, we are not a tool to make money.

Be A Tool Master,

SG

"We are all powerless as children, and money looms so powerfully... we don't grow up to claim our financial power until we look money directly in the eye, face our fears, and claim that power back."

-- Suze Orman

How does money scare you?

In your journal, write down your greatest fears around money, and see what comes up. If emotions surface, as they undoubtedly will, let them come. Really feel your feelings, without judgment. They'll give you valuable information.

"In all realms of life it takes courage to stretch your limits, express your power, and fulfill your potential; it’s no different in the financial realm. In a buy-now, consume-now culture like ours, it takes courage to make the decisions today that may make us rich tomorrow. It takes courage to face up to the facts of old age and mortality and to prepare for them. It also takes courage to live generously, regardless of your financial state of affairs. ...It takes courage to ask for what you want. And it takes courage to live honestly, wisely, true to yourself ...and true to your desire for more."

One of my biggest fears in life is money, believe it or not. I don't know if it is because I hate math (numbers, formulas, statistics, percentages, etc.) or not. I do not even know where this bona fide fear came from.

I am constantly being told by friends to "treat" myself from time to time. I want to treat myself to a cd. I am trying to understand it and so far I know it is a good thing to have. I sometimes feel like it is too late for me to "invest" or plan and when I left the workforce due to my mental illness, my 401(k) went down the drain quickly.

So, now I'm ready to be friends with money. I'm ready to conquer my fear and especially during these times. Now, I just don't like to have money around. That's stupid, I know. What I will do with extra cash is stock up on things. Canned goods, boxed goods. So, I am going to try to put a few dollars aside towards a cd. I am also making it a goal to learn a little more about money each week before I purchase my first cd.

That said, keep it flowing...
